I wrote this paper, ‘Digital Literacy and Awareness in Australia’s New Global Frontier‘ for the UNESCO supported First Media and Information Literacy Forum, which was held in Fez, Morocco 15-17 June 2011.
The importance of digital literacy in enabling online participation is becoming more important as basic physical access needs are being addressed by initiatives such as the National Broadband Network (NBN). The paper is about digital literacy in Australia in the context of the NBN as it is being rolled out across the country. The paper includes details about recent government initiatives to address digital literacy and related issues such as cybersafety. As always, this paper is independently published and reflects my personal views, rather than those of the Australian Government.
